"paulfree14" is a fictional person. The content published under this fictional person is not representing the views of paulfree14". It's sharing content of a fictional character with opinions someone else could have with the purpose of opinion forming and supporting free speech.
If you think that's made up bullshit, I would like to ask you:
"have you've heard about, theater, movies or books?" "

To those that frame an issue related to mastodon around a single person, namly @Gargron
I'll make this clear from the start. It's about power dynamics rather then a single person. And those dynamics are aplied through multible persons behaving within the frame it defines.

Eugen, from what I can judge, has been very open to the fact that he's leading the project called #mastodon. Openly and honesty. That means being responsible for the desicions that are being made, but also being the one that has the final say, always. People should have the freedom of having control over their own labor as long it's not enforcing opression. Those that joined mastodon's development, I believe, voluntarly accepted Eugen as the authority for final decisions. This indeed, as always when decision making process are designed like this, come with the cost of exclusion/opression of opinions/others.
But it isn't really forced upon anyone since it is freesoftware that can be forked anytime under the usage of a different desicion making process and that you joined voluntarly while there've been projects that offerd different aproachs to make decisions.

So I guess the point is, any critic you form towards Gargron being the leader, you have to question yourself why you'd joined voluntarly while having other options.
I guess we all agree, that everyone should be given the possibilty of maintaining a resperitory if they desire so. Thought it shouldn't be messured on their success if they should be given this possiblity or not.

It is the structure some of you disagree with. It is about the power dynamics that form, when we're devided between privilidged and unprivilidged. It is when there is no space for decision forming behond the status quo and it's current legitimated decision making format.

What ever you choose from where you're now, be aware of what you actually want and try to not reproduce patterns that left you disapointed last time.
Aplying those patterns again, will have similar results, latest in the long run.

If you're able to reason your disapointment and explain why you took a specific other aproach, I'm able to tell you where you're reusing patterns that lead to your disappointment in the first place.
(maybe not, but you still can try me.)

mastodon needs a 'read more' or similiar function.
Anything that goes way behond 500 letters is currently somewhat breaking the design.

new law in sweden, consent is needed for sex Show more

"As projects get older, they tend to move away from the benevolent dictatorship model and toward more openly democratic systems. This is not necessarily out of dissatisfaction with a particular BD. It's simply that group-based governance is more "evolutionarily stable", to borrow a biological metaphor. Whenever a benevolent dictator steps down, or attempts to spread decision-making responsibility more evenly, it is an opportunity for the group to settle on a new, non-dictatorial system — establish a constitution, as it were. The group may not take this opportunity the first time, or the second, but eventually they will; once they do, the decision is unlikely ever to be reversed. Common sense explains why: if a group of N people were to vest one person with special power, it would mean that N - 1 people were each agreeing to decrease their individual influence. People usually don't want to do that. Even if they did, the resulting dictatorship would still be conditional: the group anointed the BD, clearly the group could depose the BD. Therefore, once a project has moved from leadership by a charismatic individual to a more formal, group-based system, it rarely moves back."

It is writen from an perspective of an anarchist. You might disagree with, but at least you have the chance of reading it.

Reading through the code of conduct of (it's not a final version) it seems contradicting itself.

It sates, if I understand it correct, that anyone being disruptive, even when aplying to the code of conduct will be removed.

In the CoC:
strictly prohibited, promoting the opression of any marginalized group based on..

Disruption is something very important to . It's a method of challenging power. Embeding the exclusion of this into the CoC forms structural opression

Reading a bit the documents from the , I'm wondering why for the *first meeting* within a group were it was claimed to be unshure how to openly comunicate with each other, sets a predefined frame around building a structure to define relationships under which people work together.

That's not how to evolve into a free society, that's how to build up leading positions others can follow.

where can someone access what has been discussed in the latest and first meeting?
