@paulfree14
ok we have here already a toot with +400 made by @cassolotl
thought that is a proof that you can gain great reach via #Mastodon
so fuck of #twitter 😜
@lifning
awsom! thx.
will be added to the list 'good night corporated silo plattforms'
@paulfree14 I have on average more interaction on Mastodo, than I had on Twitter. Probably because there is less noise over here.
@jeroenpraat I defianlty have better interactions, and that straight from the beginning.
And also more. On twitter you can find accounts having much more followers but less interactions.
Thought many have left it abondand.
@paulfree14 @jeroenpraat There is no way the user numbers are as great as Twitter claims them to be.
Of course, they are still big, but I think the attention they're getting is more reflecting on the types of people using (journalists, celebrities) rather actual usage.
@jeroenpraat @loke
...that tweets being regular linked in articles also drives a lot attention.
So yes journalists and celebreties.
@loke @paulfree14 All social network have a large percentage of inactive users. Also on Mastodon.
@jeroenpraat @paulfree14 Of course. But I don't think anyone actually counts the inactive users on Mastodon. It's not like there is any stock price depends on it.
@loke @paulfree14 That's true, but when people say Mastodon has almost a million users, you have to keep this in mind:
1. minus a large percentage of inactive users (like on all social networks)
2. minus a lot of people that have accounts on multiple instances
3. plus a few thousand people from other parts of the fediverse (GNU Social, Pleroma, Hubzilla, Friendica, etc.)
@jeroenpraat @paulfree14 That's true. It's not like I ever trusted those usage numbers anyway. I also have to admit that "reach" is not the reason I'm using it.
@jeroenpraat @paulfree14 Me too, but that's probably because I can't stand Twitter.
@paulfree14 https://cybre.space/@lifning/98835409973873638 had a few hundred boosts, plus it's a poem telling Twitter to fuck off :)
of course, to care about raw numbers of boosts or likes is to fundamentally miss the point of Mastodon... but if it helps alleviate the hesitation of people addicted to the engagement-metrics dopamine to escape to our world, all the better :)
