while #telegram is down (at least for some) take this as an oportunity to reflect:
- do you rely on a centralized service
- telegram runs on proprietary software
- it can't federate and creates by that something known as 'walled gargen'
- there are great alternatives you might like
#matrix (federated protocoll) -> https://about.riot.im/
#xmpp (federated protocoll) -> conversations.im/ , #jabber ...
for future use:
briar (in beta) has p2p
https://briarproject.org/index.html
@MaSven hmmm, it's some time ago I tested briar. I can't remember.
@paulfree14 unfortunately they don't have a good interface for shared files, from when I last checked, I mainly use Telegram as cloud storage that is free, for stuff I don't care about security, if there is a good chat/cloud service that is federative I'd happily change, most federative things people don't usually allow much storage, or have a problem if you use it for storage a lot.
@codeawayhaley
thought for storage it's ok, as you don't need it all the time I guess. But loosing accsess to others to comunicate I find can be troubeling.
You tested riot. I have seen ppl using it for storage.
some #p2p solution like Syncthing might be also of interest for you (haven't tested it personaly)
@paulfree14 And quite similar to Briar, there's Tox.
For which you can take your choice of clients.
@paulfree14 not forgetting https://delta.chat ;)

@paulfree14 walled gargron?
@lucidiot
uups.
should say: walled garden
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closed_platform
@paulfree14 It's a catch 22. If no one uses them, why switch?
switching a software, talk Show more
@jtl @paulfree14 The only catch 22 here is your reasoning. :P It's like saying "Why fight for human rights when none of my friends are doing it?".
You should be the change you want to see. If you do good and lead by example, your friends will be inspired to follow you. And then your friends will inspire their friends.
@paulfree14 I really like wire. Great desktop client too
@tengu haven't used it. It's very similiar to mattermost and rocketchat, or?
@paulfree14
Has briar the same issues like tox? High energy consumption at least on the phone. You can not be online on multiple devices. You have to be online constantly to retrieve messages and send messages.
