@paulfree14 There's no install button? I've added the repo to f-droid the page for Briar shows up when I search (actually, it just automatically shows up in the list of new apps, now that I've added the repo), but there's no way to actually install it.

This is probably not something you can help with, unless you're one of the developers, but it's weird.

2. yes. you can have a 'blog' and add any feed to it. takes 3 clicks.

I've never used it since it is asking for a mobile number bringing from my understanding an unnecessary dependecy (I know you can still easily register anonymous)

It also can't federate. But beside that it seems to be secure, and many like it.

The fact that Signal requires a phone number is annoying, but I understand the decision. It remove many barriers to use.

Unlike other messaging apps, users don't have to understand they they have an account, don't need a password, etc. Contact discovery is also much simpler, no need to maintain a separate contact list for Signal. So install Signal and can immediately send encrypted texts to any other Signal user. This simplicity is why it's so popular

@paulfree14 @bortzmeyer but I'm really hoping they'll allow users to register with email addresses instead some day. The fact that you need a phone number is barrier to anyone who needs anonymity, and I end up writing complicated tutorials for how to get around sharing your phone number, like this: https://theintercept.com/2017/09/28/signal-tutorial-second-phone-number/

@bortzmeyer @paulfree14 @micahflee for such use case, there is Wire. Plus, they are hosted in Europe which means strict privacy laws.

There is at this moment no other way then meeting. (well I guess you could also hack it)
Once you have one contact, you both can introduce to each other contacts to whom you're connected already.
